Hi All!
Late monthly update but I May just have had a really productive month! Starting with the first weekend which was something I have had on my radar for quite sometime. A trip to Cincinnati for the Flying Pig Challenge weekend. It had a one mile, 5k, 10k and Marathon combo. Then it was off to SoCal to check out Catalina Island which had an awesome ferry to Avalon. Once there the 32 mile journey to the Two Harbors campsite began. The hiking was great but scenery was kind of hidden due to the fog. Stopped for lunch at the airport before heading to the site. The next day began the challenge of heading back to Avalon. The following weekend was another combo adventure. The Wild Rose Half Marathon followed by the Revel Mt Charleston. It was the first time I completed a half and full combo in the same weekend. The final weekend of the month was the biggest event in the group for May. This event was my third time participating in the Pigtails Challenge. I signed up for the 100k distance which was #7 of all time. Since this month had three epic events, I wasn’t quite sure how it would go, so my plan was to keep things moderated in the beginning and see how everything felt. The moderated pace helped me stay on a pretty consistent throughout the event. I had moments where I thought I had taken way too long during the pit stops and got a bit “downer Danny” on my performance. Once I was able to get over my self imposed drama and pity party I was able to get into a pretty efficient grove. I was feeling pretty excited that I might have a really strong performance on my last 9 mile loop since it was still daylight and the prior two events began closer to nighttime. At the last mile (which was a bonus mile from what Garmin was showing) I knew I had a new top time. Not only was this the top time for the course, it was my best 100k time of all of my 100k events 🎉. The next adventure will be a pair of half marathons and will rest up to get ready for the Brazen Nirto and San Jose 408 events 🙂
Here are a few pics from the last three events:
Further exciting information on the list of upcoming events can be found on JB’s Fun tracker for 2026
Looks like my weekend warrior plans are working out to keep the events going strong! Don’t miss the new and exiting ongoing possibilities by checking the Crazy Hike List to see what’s been added and scheduled (hopefully I’ll get a chance to get back to this).
Training still remains tricky due to ongoing home care but from all indications is working well 🙂
